Benetti, Fernando 'Frank' S. 78 03/24/1932 10/06/2010 Fernando "Frank" Silvio Benetti was born March 24, 1932, in Lucca, Italy. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1936. Frank attended Washington High School, graduating in 1950.
In October 1961, he became a fire-fighter with the city of Portland and retired as a firefighter/dispatcher in 1986. Frank was extremely proud of his fire service career. Frank was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, fish, golf, and look for mushrooms and rocks wherever he went.
As an accomplished finish carpenter, Frank had a deep love for building cabinets and remodeling rooms for friends and family. He also enjoyed constructing all kinds of interesting crafts and jewelry from wood, rocks, and metal. He was a true artisan.
Frank was also quite the handyman who never passed up the opportunity to help anyone with anything at anytime. He was certainly a master recycler, and was able to transform any scrap into a useful item with minimal effort. His quick wit and spirited humor will never be forgotten. Frank died after suffering a stroke Oct. 6, 2010, in Portland.
He will be sorely missed. Frank S. Benetti is survived by Carol, his wife of 53 years; sons, Loyd and Marco; daughter, Cathy; and grandchildren, Alexie, Samantha, and Blair.
A celebration of Frank's life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, in Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham. Private inurnment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Contributions may be made in memory of Frank to the Oregon Humane Society.
