500 Celebrate Life of Gene Spathas - Class of 1950

Over 550 people packed the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on April 14, 2009 to celebrate the life of Gene Thomas Spathas.  Gene touched many on his lifelong journey. His 6 year old nephew asked during the service if his Papou (Grandfather in Greek) was famous.  Well, he was not famous, but he loved people and they loved him. Gene was a loving husband, father and friend and will be missed.

When Gene's wife Elaine said to former Washington High alum, Billy Holt that Gene enjoyed watching you grow up, Bill responded by saying "Gene didn't watch us grow up, he helped us grow up".

Gene lived a great 76 years. He touched many people and made everyone feel important. His smile, endearing personality and humor could light up a room. He left a legacy of faith, family, friends and entrepreneurship. Gene never worked for anyone after graduating from college.
